|The United Nations Was Born at the San Francisco Opera House in 1945|
On this day 70 years ago, on June 25, 1945, the United Nations was born as its charter was approved by unanimous vote at the San Francisco Conference at the War Memorial Opera House.
Although the Second World War would not end until August 15 1945 on VJ Day, delegates of 50 nations had been meeting in San Francisco since April 25 writing up the 111 article United Nations Charler. The charter was signed the next day at the Herbst Theatre auditorium of the Veterans War Memorial Building.
The first general assembly would be held on October 24, 1945 with 51 nations present at Central Hall in London. The United Nations Headquarters in New York would be completed in 1952.
