I did not find Lago de Prata Airport particularly impressive as a destination at first. I left after a first visit. The reason why was that I am a naval aviation fan, and the photography in the Second Life Destination Guide which interested my visit featured a line up of really cool looking World War 2 era fighters which look like the famous U.S. Navy F4U Vought Corsairs -- some of the best looking aircraft ever produced by the U.S.A.. So to make a long story short, when I arrived for photograph taking no airplanes at all were found on the runway -- just some very cool looking seaplanes which you can see in these photographs.
However, on a second visit, I changed my mind. There was a very quiet and still beauty that I found well suited for photography. In fact, the flat runways with landing lights, the open spaces of the runways, and the detail in the buildings lining the airfield including an automated bread-making bot really held my interest. The seaplanes parked in the water offer quite a bit of detail as do those in the aviation hangars. The lush tropical vegetation, a standout in the Lago de Prata Region, inspired the top 10 daytime still image photographs here.
I returned for a third visit, and found myself in a South Pacific monsoon. It was pouring rain-- you could feel the dampness down to your bones! I was inspired to take two animated GIFS which you can see as the lower two images in this article. These had to be some of the best rain effects ever at a destination in Second Life.
Although I missed my fighter aircraft, I was pleased at Prata Airport and recommend a visit. There are flight demonstrations here on Saturdays, which is the ideal time to visit if you want to meet people very interested in aviation. You can also book a vacation here, but I am not quite sure what that entails. I did meet a new friend, Anjelikka, owner of The Retreat which I reviewed here earlier this week, who had a very interesting experience when visiting -- check out her blog links below.
Slurl to Prata Airport:
I used Windlight sky setting [TOR] MIDDAY - Nostalgika in the non-animated images which I favor for its warm golden light. Nostalgika comes as an option in the Firestorm Viewer.
