In the very conservative state of Alabama, hotbed of fundamentalist Protestantism, and traditionally considered the most socially regressive United State together with neighboring Mississippi, the first same-sex marriage has just taken place.
The Supreme Court of the United States announced this morning that they would refuse to stop the wedding from occurring by continuing a stay on a temporary court order.
Hard core right wing Justice Clarence Thomas later admitted that he feels that marriage equality is a done deal for the entire United States. Get ready for a great Pride Celebration this June -- that is when The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make its ruling to bring equality to the 13 States, including Texas,which do not yet have it.
The Head of the Alabama Supreme Court, Justice Ray Moore, had ordered his justices not to perform these weddings. However, he is in violation of federal law and most of the other justices are ignoring him. They could end up with Contempt of Court citations if they ignore federal law, and end up in jail or heavily fines. It has happened before.
