One of the greatest art events in Second Life's history will open today at 1:00 PM SLT, the Golden Age of the Russian Avant Garde, at the Linden Endowment for the arts.
The event, which is part of a comprehensive exhibit that is taking place at the Manege Museum in Moscow, and is funded by the Russian Government, will be simultaneously broadcast in Moscow.
The Russian Avant Garde covers the period of incredible creativity in Russia from 1890 - 1950 that coincided with the Russian Revolution, and the rise of tremendous Russian creativity in the fine arts, ballet, and classical music. The exhibit in Second Life take great advantage of virtual reality that will let you experience avant-garde first hand in the guise of a surrealistic avatar (given away at the event), examples of which I show below.
I visited the exhibit last night. I was blown away at the sophistication and staging of the event. I am not prone to exaggeration, but in my 7 years in Second Life, I have never been as impressed with any art event as I have with this one. It is that good, and I highly recommend a visit.
