Great Destinations: The Famous Mayo Clinic in Second Life

The Famous Mayo Clinic in Second Life

The world famous Mayo Clinic, located  Minnesota in the United States, has a virtual presence in Second Life. Second Life's Mayo Clinic is on a working Sim, although the general public is welcome to visit, the actual exhibits to visit are limited - I could fine an exhibit on diabetes and a bookstore that provided information on health related issues. However, it is a great place to tour.

The build is gorgeous and well landscaped, with a very authentic looking reproduction of their modern headquarters. In fact, I rank the physical attractiveness of the place as a top-20 Second Life destination.

A conference center is open to the public during certain events; The Dalai Lama spoke to the audience back in April during a visit to the clinic in Minnesota.  You need to join the Mayo Clinic group to get information on events that are broadcast and held in Second Life.

There is a second Mayo Clinic sim that is under construction and not open to the public -- you can only land in a very small area. The build is a virtualization of the Mayo Clinic's Plummer Building, which opened in 1927.  I managed to take a peak at the building with my camera, and saw some amazing Art Deco and Art Nouveau interiors and detailing that I will show here tomorrow.

There was someone from the real-world  Mayo Clinic, staff member Svea Morane, who was there to provide information and answer questions (he looked  dapper in his nice professional outfit, he is photographed with Ryce below).
