Blue Mars Stuns Cyberspace with Opening of the Onland Collaborative Business District

Today, at 1 am. SL time, Blue Mars and DLAB stunned cyberspace by opening the Onland Collaborative Business District. Onland is a massive, immersive 3D space for enterprise use, and is the brain child of DLAB, part of the Institute for Digital Innovation at Teesside University in the United Kingdom. Blue Mars is
providing the platform and technology for this groundbreaking application of collaborative virtual reality technology. Onland is is the first Blue Mars City to provide 3D interactive collaborative spaces specifically designed to meet the needs of businesses.

Blue Mars specifically leapfrogs Second Life as an enterprise platform with this opening. Second Life has   nothing of this size (imagine 100 sims which together)  just devoted to serious enterprise business.  The design of the district is stunning.

It already has major tenants, and moves Blue Mars to the forefront as a platform for virtual business collaboration. I will have more about this new district in the next several days. Second Life needs to play catch -up fast, because the use of virtual worlds by business is expect to grow to a ten billion dollar economy within the next five years.

This is expected to be the first of several major announcements by Blue Mars which should reinvigorate Second Life by finally showing that a serious competitor in the space has emerged with a high degree of professionalism and business acumen.  Virtual Reality, as of today, now becomes big time.
