In case you are not familiar with the term "Rebettzin", it means a wife of a Rabbi who is a spiritual leader in her own right.  Rebettzin Gross was married to six world famous Orthodox Rabbis, and strives to keep her 5:00 p.m. shadow at a minimum.

To all our Jewish readers, please have a wonderful Passover!

Photos from the Impulse Beach Party on Monday.

I hosted the first Impulse Beach Party yesterday with DJ Shepherd.  The event was crowded with people dancing and having a great time.  Surfboy Kanya who is on the right in the photo above with handsome Todd Treves won 1000 linden for hottest body in a swimsuit.  Here are some pictures from the event, which will be continued next Monday from 2-4 SL time. I will post a landmark next Sunday to the event.

Photo of the Day: Eddi and Jason Rexen at Paradise Beach

I ran into hunky Jason Rexen at Paradise Beach earlier today, and though I would share this photo with you.  Jason is one of those people who always takes great shots. Paradise Beach is getting busier all the time and is emerging as one of the hottest hangouts on the scene.

This has to be the most surprising news of the past 10 years, and I cannot believe it! Mr. macho himself, Ricky Martin, has announced to the world that he is gay!  My mouth dropped when I heard.  Who would have guessed?  In honor of cute Ricky's announcement, I am running his famous 1999 Grammy performance here.

Jennnnna Jameson Now Has Her Own Magazine in Brazil!

Jennnna Jameson is the leading actress in the adult film industry in Second Life, and a wonderful person.  Both Ryce Skytower and myself  are fortunate enough to count Jennnnna  as one of our best friends, and she now has a Brazilian Magazine devoted just to her!  Check out Sexy Live Brazil to see!  It is really a hot issue.

Second Life Destinations - St. Pauls Cathedral

Magnificent St. Paul's Cathedral, the mother church of the City of London, was designed by Christopher Wren and built 300 years ago, replacing an older St. Paul's Cathedral destroyed in the great London fire of 1666.  It is by some estimates the second largest Christian house of worship in the world after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

St. Paul's is the place where Prince Charles married Diana, and other great state occasions are carried since it holds more people than Westminster Abbey, where British coronations happen. We can visit in Second Life and get an idea of the incredible baroque interiors and scale of the dome that make this Cathedral one of the wonders of the world

Ask Eddi: I am 9 years old. How can I get my friends to stop calling me "stinky?"

From Brooke:

How can I stop people telling me I stink?

I haven't had a bath for 5 months so people keep calling me "Stinky." I'm popular at school but people keep walking away from me. Today I was walking home from school and these guys started spraying me with a hose. I WILL NOT take a bath. Nobody can make me. I don't care if I get dirty or if I Stink, I just want to know how to shut them up?

My Answer:

If this is not a joke, you need to bathe now. I do not know how your own family can stand to be around you. You must smell horrible. You will not shut them up, and probably are going to be called stinky in your local town paper and on television if you do not bathe now, and will have this nickname for the rest of your life. My friend's dog is named Stinky and you do not want her name I assure you.

Second Life Photo of the Day: Hunky Tadd Rives

I took these casual shots of hunky Tadd Rives at his club, Tadd's Cabaret this week. Tadd is actually a very dear friend of mine, and like most club owners, does not have much time for studio shots - so I grabbed these casual shots before he logged off the other night. I love casual shots; they almost always look better than posed shots if you are interested in capturing realism.

The extensive cropping is due to signage in the back. the only way to remove this is to go to Photoshop and layer out the background which I do not like to do.  First of all, it is time consuming to do this - I like my photography to be rapid, and second, the lighting effects are always destroyed in layering. My photography first of all is natural to record Second Life, flaws and all.

Ask Eddi: Eddi Answers Questions About Pet Ownership

These are my actual answers to question that appeared today in Yahoo! Answers.

My friend is trying to breed her dog. How can I stop her?
My friend, who by the way is 16, is trying to breed her pitbull with another pitbull. This is the same girl who thinks that if you give a dog red or raw meat, they will turn on you and become aggressive. That was te first time I have ever heard that. She knows nothing about birthing. How can I stop her from breeding because those dogs are just gonna end up in the pound. She can't even train her own. I trained her dog for her and she wouldn't let me do that at first. I am into dogs but breeding is not my area. How can I stop her?

Your Answer:

She sounds charming! First of all say "You known nuttin' about birthin' no pit bulls Miss _(her name) __________" for humorous effect. Second, suggest to her that the reason she is so into mating pit bulls is because she herself can not envision herself having any normal sex (I just wonder what she looks like). Tell her you will start a rumor that she is having sex with her dog unless she drops her lurid fascination with their procreation habits.

I don't know nuttin' about birthin' no pit bulls Miss Scarlett!

What do dogs dream about?

Your Answer:

It was in his book The Interpretation of Dreams, that Sigmund Freud first argued that the motivation of all dream content is wish-fulfilment, and that the instigation of a dream is often to be found in the events of the day preceding the dream, which he called the "day residue. If we apply this to dogs, we can make the assumption that the dreams are the fulfillment of wishes that were aroused in them the previous day (the 'dream day').We do not assume that the dog's dreams are the result of any neurotic behavior under normal situations. If our dogs are neurotic, then their dreams contain rich symbolism, especially if they concern their mothers.

Neighbours Premiered 25 Years Ago Today

Some of the hunky cast of Neighbours

Neighbours, the Australian Soap Opera with the mindless and vapid scripts, is 25 years old today.  It is still going strong.   I had to admit a certain weakness for Neighbours especially when blond Jesse Spencer (Billy Kennedy) was on the show. I used to watch Neighbors when I lived in the U.K.where it remains very popular in the student market.  According to Wikipedia, It is not broadcast in the United States at the current time but was broadcast on the Oxygen channel in the past.

Many Australians take pride in never having seen an episode of Neighbours. Jago Constantine, my partner, thought I was joking when I told him that I would be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the show today.

Neighbours is best appreciated for its gorgeous Aussie cast.  Famous Neighbours alumni include:

Jesse Spencer (Billy Kennedy)

Kylie Minoque (Charlene Robinson) and Jason Donovan (Scott Robinson)

 Guy Pearce (Mike Young)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today is the National Holiday of Ireland.  And in honor, I am playing three patriotic Irish songs.

Gorgeous Ireland used to be a relatively poor place . In the past 30 years, Ireland's economy started to boom. It is now one of the top 10 countries in the world in terms of per capita income, and the greatest success story in Europe. It also explains why Ireland is such an expensive place to visit.

One more thing- Irish people dress really well in Dublin when they go out at night.  And if you are gay, head over to the George in Dublin -- and end up at the greasy 24 hour dive across the street that serves the worlds best chili fries which come in handy when you are dead drunk and hungry. (If anyone knows the name of the place please leave it here). The guys in Dublin can be gorgeous, and our friend above is just one of the thousands of hot guys you can see there-- although they tend to dress more moderately in public.

The first song is the national anthem of the Republic of Ireland, "Amhrán na bhFiann" or "The Soldier's Song.

Soldiers are we,
whose lives are pledged to Ireland,
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave,
Sworn to be free,
no more our ancient sireland,
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the "bearna baoil",[fn 4]
In Erin’s cause, come woe or weal,
’Mid cannon’s roar and rifles’ peal,
We’ll chant a soldier’s song

The second is the famous ballad Danny Boy, which is a poem set to the tune of Londonderry air (or Derry Air if you are from the Republic of Ireland).  This song is used as an unofficial national anthem in Northern Ireland (the part that is in the United Kingdom, where the national anthem is of course God Save the Queen).  . This version is sung by Deanna Durbin in the 1946 movie Because of Him. The lyrics are very moving, they are of a mother speaking to a son who has leaves Ireland during the Irish Diaspora (over one million starved to death) in the mid 1800's Irish potato famine. Half of Ireland's surviving population of 6 million left for places most notably the United States, Britain, Canada, and Australia.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling,
From glen to glen and down the mountain side;
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling;
It's you, it's you must go, and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow;
I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow;
Danny boy, Oh Danny boy, I love you so.

But if ye come and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be.
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I will know, 'though soft ye tread around me,
And then my grave shall richer sweeter be,
Then you'll bend down and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.

Finally, we have a third national anthem to play today - Ireland's Call. Originally written and sung at Irish Rugby matches, where Northern and Southern Ireland field one team, it is now being played more often as a song that all of Ireland can sing together.  It is very catchy.

Come the day and come the hour
Come the power and the glory
We have come to answer
Our Country's call
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

From the mighty Glens of Antrim
From the rugged hills of Galway
From the walls of Limerick
And Dublin Bay
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

Hearts of steel
And heads unbowing
Vowing never to be broken
We will fight, until
We can fight no more
From the four proud provinces of Ireland

Ireland, Ireland
Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Ireland's call

Why is this blog celebrating St. Patrick's Day If I am not Irish?

The Five-Hour Parade in New York tomrrow marches past St. Patrick's Cathedral.

By now, you probably realize that St. Patrick's Day, the Irish National Holiday tomorrow celebrating the patron Saint of Ireland, is a pretty big deal for me. This blog looks like the Irish Tourist Board web site for one thing. Let me assure you that I do not have one drop of Irish blood in me. Although 45 million Americans claim some Irish ethnicity, I am not one of them. So why is it such a big deal here?

Simple. I am a born and bred New Yorker, always was, and always will be. And St. Paddy's Day, as the holiday is known in New York, is the most important public celebration outside of your own home-  all year.  Christmas and Thanskgiving are more for spending time with family.  New Yorkers by the hundreds of thousands go out, drink more than a few beers with some great friends, wear the green, and think about how great it is that you are Irish, real or imagined, for the day.

Now St. Patrick's day is also a huge holiday in other American and Canadian cities, as well as cities around the world. But as far as I know, it is only in New York where just about everyone born there seems to think they have become honorary Irish for the day.  Why is this? First and foremost, New York City is the largest Irish city in the world, with well over 1 million Irish – Americans, New York City has more people in it of Irish ancestry than any other city in the world.

The famous New York St. Patrick's Day Parade was first held in 1762 by Irish Soldiers in the British Army. By 1848, the Parade had become the largest  in the United States, and now has  150,000 marchers and 2 million observers in a typical year. Every politician who seeks election or reelection in New York  marches in the parade.  And St. Patrick's Cathedral, the beautiful Gothic structure across from Rockefeller Center on famous Fifth Avenue, the street on which the parade is held, is named after the patron saint of Ireland himself.

 Empire State Building Lit Green

You cannot miss St. Paddy's day in New York.  The iconic Empire State building is lit green, and thousands of Irish flags are flown. But there is another reason why New York has made St. Paddy's day it's own.
New York City is, most of all, a city of immigrants. The torch of Liberty did not just mean people could seek refuge in New York; it meant that in a very short period of time those that stayed would actually become native New Yorkers and would no longer be outsiders.. St. Paddy's Day is a New York celebration simply because New Yorkers know that it would be a much lesser place without the Irish, and has, since 1848, become world's greatest Irish city.  All New Yorkers become honorary Irish on March 17 as a result.

I sharpened the edges of the the colors in this pic to get this painted effect.  In most paint editors there is a "posterization option" which allows you to do this.  Experiment with these effects to get painted effects like this photograph does above.

Ars Norsmead Memorial on ROF Island

There is a Memorial  to Ars Norsmead on ROF (Remembering Our Friends) Island. On Saturday night, many people came to an impromptu gathering for Ars

The SLURL to the Memorial on ROF Island is here. While you are here, you may want to donate a lamp light to keep the eternal flame going.

Butt Pirates Memorial to Ars Norsmead

Over the last year and a half, Sunday nights at 5pm slt has been the time for the weekly Butt Pirates party with DJ Ars Northmead.  And as we mourn his passing, it seems fitting to open up the memorial to our dear friend on the same day and at the same time.  Ars loved the weekly parties, and he was at his best when he was entertaining us all.

So at 5pm tonight we will open the Butt Pirates Memorial to Ars Northmead.  A space has been created for everyone to come and pay their respects, to share their grief, to trade funny stories about our friend - and most of all to remember Ars.

The memorial will remain in place and open through next Sunday evening.  There will be a service for Ars at the memorial this Saturday, March 20, at 3pm slt.  We welcome all of you to come visit tonight or during the week, and to attend the service on Saturday.

The memorial space is best experienced with your environment set to "Sunset."  We invite you all to leave behind tokens of love and remembrance to Ars, such as a candle or a card or other small object.  But we ask that you only leave behind low prim objects, as prims are limited.  Also, to reduce lag we ask that you remove all attachments and HUDs before you arrive at the memorial space.

We also want to express our unyielding gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Truck Meredith and Tymus Tenk for their generous donation of the land for the memorial on their beautiful sim, and to Bora Rossini and Luckymen Moody for the brilliant and awe-inspiring build of the memorial itself.  It speaks to Ars' great strength of character that he had such talented and generous friends.

Finally, on behalf of both of us and Bock, we want to thank you all for your many kind words and support during this difficult time.  It makes the arduous journey through this pain much easier to bear.

Please feel free to join us tonight or at any time this week.  And as you remember our friend Ars, as you cry or as you laugh or as you curse the gods who took him away from us, do not forget the joy that Ars represented, and the happiness he brought to so many of us.

There is a new Angel of Music in heaven tonight, and he's watching over us all.

Ars Norsmead Memorial Service. He was loved by many.

I have just arrived at the memorial service for Ars Norsmead who passed away on March 12. 80 people are already on the Hinterland Orkney sim for the service.  The number is growing. We are listening to haunting bagpipes and a rendition of Amazing Grace for Ars.

Our hearts go out to Bock McMillan, Ars other Second Life family members (I do not know them all),  and Ars Real Life family, in particular. It is clear that Ars was loves and missed by many of us. I will have more to report about commemoration events for  Ars later.

Bacchus Ireto has just read this poem for Ars by Emily Dickenson at the service:

Because I could not stop for Death
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality.

We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labour, and my leisure too,
For his civility.

We passed the school where children played,
Their lessons scarcely done;
We passed the fields of gazing grain,
We passed the setting sun.

We paused before a house that seemed
A swelling of the ground;
The roof was scarcely visible,
The cornice but a mound.

Since then 'tis centuries; but each
Feels shorter than the day
I first surmised the horses' heads
Were toward eternity.

Here is a partial list of people who were at the service today:
