Urgent! If you live or know someone in New York State, please read this. And if you have a blog, please publish this.
Gay marriage is close to being legalized in New York. But your help is needed.
12 more votes are needed in the New York State Senate to pass gay marriage legalization, and 15 New York Senators have not indicated which way they are voting. They can be swayed. The New York State Assembly and Governor of New York are supporting this. If this passes, it will make New York - the third largest state, and with about 20 million people- the first to pass gay marriage through legislation and not court order.
Please read this article if you live in New York or know someone who does. Even if you don't, contact them anyway via telephone. The link to this information at the bottom of this entry.
And I ask that the entire Second Life blogging community also publish this information.
The following 15 New York State Senators are undecided and should be contacted:
John Bonacic, R-Mt. Hope
Brian Foley, D-Suffolk
Ruth Hassel-Thompson D-Bronx/Westchester
Owen Johnson, R-Suffolk
Carl Kruger, D-Brooklyn
Andrew Lanza, R-Staten Island
Roy McDonald, R-Saratoga
Hiram Monserrate, D-Queens
John Sampson, D-Brooklyn
David Valesky, D-Oneida
Joseph Addabbo, D-Queens
James Alesi, R-East Rochester
Kemp Hannon, R-Nassau
Vincent Leibell, R-Westchester
Thomas Morahan, R-Rockland
The Following Senators are Democrats and have said they will vote no. As members of the party of Obama, this is completely unacceptable. They can put under tremendous pressure to switch if you call! Call their offices, let them know how unacceptable this is to you, and how you will be sending checks to any future opponent that will run against them.
WOULD VOTE NO:
Darrel Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent
Ruben Diaz, D-Bronx
Shirley Huntley, D-Queens
George Onorato, D-Queens
William Stachowski, D-Buffalo
