Great Second Life Destinations: The Pines at Jacob's Pond Decorates For The Winter Holiday Season

The charm of a country town square in very late autumn, with holiday lights and lightly dressed residents -- perhaps experiencing some late season warm temperatures after an early snowfall, which is typical for the American Southwest this time of year, graces The Pines at Jacob's Pond, one of my favorite season-changing Second Life destinations. This is a large town square, which takes up the entirety of a region, set for perfect holiday lighting photographic lighting conditions with the onset of winter evening dusk. Charming winter park vistas and lots of snow-covered automobiles make for some gorgeous photographic opportunities. A realistic and clear icy pond for skaters lies at the center of the town square park,  unencumbered by the pose balls and other paraphernalia that takes away from realism at other winter destinations. I highly recommend a visit.

Great Second Life Destinations: A Silver Paradise at the New Winter Trace

The Trace is, arguably, Second Life's best regarded name for a long-term independently own island that has regularly redesigned for the changing seasons.I first photographed The Trace here in July 2013 and have looked forward to every new change in design since. The new Winter Trace, with its shimmering silver skies, reflected on a frozen mountain lake surface, with silver ice spreading as far as the eye can see is simply magnificent. Mountain reflections have never looked better. The alpine trees and rustic buildings all contribute to a winter photographer's dream location.

At the time of writing this blog post, there are three Trace regions that can be visited simultaneously - Summer, Fall, and Winter 2016.  The new Winter Trace has primarily been designed by Kylie Jaxxon, the original designer and founder. Elvira Kytori, the designer of the Fall Trace, which opened in October, has assumed ownership of the Trace sims from Kyle. A detailed explanation of the new relationship between these two great designers is available on a notecard that is offered upon arrival at any of the three regions. Information on how to visit all three highly recommended Trace regions is contained below:

All photography was taken with the Windlight settings already programmed at the region, and which are recommended for your viewing.

Great Second Life Destinations: A Late Autumn Indian Summer Breaks Out in Golden Hues at Yasminia

The term "Indian Summer" is a period of warm and dry weather that is used in North America.  A true Indian Summer must follow the first hard frost, in November, and before the first substantial snowfall. The stagnant air -- combined with the burning of falling leaves brings hazy weather conditions that New Englanders in particular identify with a prelude to the Thanksgiving Holiday season.

I found Yasminia, a particularly well designed mountain lakes region that reminded me of Indian Summer in Northern New England, particularly in the mountainous areas of New Hampshire and Maine.  In fact, this had to be one of the most evocative and timely November locations I have seen in Second Life for this exact time of year. The setting sun and clouds casting reflections on the cool expansive lake reminded me of the scenery around Lake Winnipesaukee, a particularly attractive area in the rugged granite state.

This is a very attractive destination and wonderful for photographers.  A dance party was going on when I was taking photos on the central pier, so be prepared for a possible crowd of people when you visit.
