Great Second Life Destinations: Autumn Arrives at Nouvelles Aventures

Magical Nouvelles Aventures enchants  with a fresh rose-hewed light setting that could either be reflective of a rainy day in the mountains to come, or one that has just passed. I show the programmed Windlight Sky Setting for the region above. I decided to be experimentative and show some alternative autumnal light settings to show how this very pretty mountain landscape -- with just a right amount of whimsical and magical elements as not to be overwhelming- would look though an early October New England or Quebec Autumn day. This is the best time of year to visit one of the most famous regions in the world for natural beauty in their fiery gold and orange harvest splendor.

Grest Second Life Destinations: Byrd Island at Oyster Bay

Lick Sim Designs has another excellent build which you need to see before Second Life's summer season ends. Byrd Island at Oyster Bay is a fog enshrouded island that has, quite literally, been taken over by flocks of birds. I particularly liked the pigeons which invaded the well appointed living room in the large farm house in the center of the island. I varied the cloud cover in advanced light settings to get the brighter blue skies in the lower images in this post. The storks (which I show above) were particularly likelike in their natural setting.

Great Second Life Destinations: West of the Rain / Vitalogy, Inspired By the Pacific Northwest and Puget Sound

West of the Rain is a public sim and full region loosely inspired by The San Juan Islands in Puget Sound in Washington State. This is a gorgeously detailed and one of the best designed sims of 2016 on the grid; it is a showcase for Second Life photographers. Oobleck Allagash and Nodnol Jameson did an outstanding job achieving a new level of charming realism in constructing a destination that has quickly become a blogger and photographers favorite.

I particularly enjoyed visiting all the highly realistic and fun shops on the main street -- this is a town I would actually love to live in myself. Anyone who appreciates good virtual design needs to pay a trip here.

All photography was taken with the recommended region Windlight Sky and Water settings using ultra high graphics via an NVIDIA 970 GTX graphics card. I found that the number of textures, particularly withing the shops shown in the lower 5 images, required several patient minutes to completely stabilize.
