Great Second Life Destinations: Good News! Casablanca Will Now Stay Open Through Mid-March 2016

I have good news.

Sommer Shepherd, the owner of the Nantucket sim, has decided to keep the amazing Casablanca movie set which is located on her parcel open for about two more weeks through Mid-March 2016, and not the end of February as previously reported.

The idea for this virtualization of the great 1942 movie Casablanca -- as a romantic wedding destination for a good friend -- came from Sommer. She then asked well known second life builder and decorator TracyLynne Carpenter to design this  highly evocative and realistic film set. This is a completely gorgeous build.

You simply must visit Casablanca before it closes in about two weeks. I cannot recommend a destination any more than I do this one.

All photography was taken with a standard Sundet Windlight Sky Setting.

My favorite scene from the great movie Casablanca -- the playing of the National Anthem of France, La Marseillaise. This was forbidden in Morocco in 1942 by the Nazis and their Vichy French Allies.

Great Second Life Destinations: Funky Junk Part 2 - The Underwater Environment

Funky Junk is a collaborative environment between Carmsie Melodie, FreeWee Ling, Elizabeth Wallington Resident and Dusty Canning on LEA 22.  Although it can be visited now, It will formally open tomorrrow,  Saturday, February 27 at  LEA 22 with a 12 house opening party with top Second Life DJ's. Funky Junk is actually one of the best multimedia art installations I have seen in  a while. In fact, it is incredibly good. Everything is made of junk or garbage -- whether it be moving fish, animated devices, or a recycled toilet paper forest. There are two environments to visit above and below water. I featured photographs from the mainland area here on Wednesday. This is a highly innovative art installation, and one that I highly recommend you visit. You will not be disappointed.

Great Second Life Destinations: Betty Tureaud's City at LEA 27

The City, an art installation by well known virtual environment artist Betty Tureaud, can currently be viewed at LEA (Linden Endowment for the Arts) 27. At the arrival area, teleport to The City via a dual  propeller mid-20th century airliner which is parked in a Sahara-like desert. You will arrive at The City, which, if you follow the instructions on the note card in the arrival area, will be bathed in glorious hues of warm-coloured light. As you walk to the city, which reminded me of Toronto, Canada with its tall CN Tower, you will notice animated elements including a rapid surface transit system. Twin Lights dominate the skyline -- reminiscent of Manhattan's Tribute in Light lit every September 11 to commemorate the World Trade Center. The City is a strikingly beautiful art installation which takes full advantage of reflected light upon structural elements. Make sure not to miss this.
