Great Second Life Destinations: Frog's Garden at Drobak Village

Frog's Garden is a refreshing and open destination with clear blue skies and freshly driven white snow. Winter is ending early here -- look closely and you can see the first-of-the-season daffodils pushing through the snow. This is a great destinations for photographers, and those who want to relax breathing in the late winter mountain air, and is recommended for photographers and just about everyone else.  Please check the destination blog for information on the Frog's Garden Store and Cafe.

Great Second Life Destinations: Watercolors From Jacob's Pines

The Pines at Jacob's Pond are a favorite seasonal destination for Second Life photographers for good reason -- everything is so natural and believable. The mass plantings of trees and other plants are naturally done without any repetitive symmetry. Every turn brings a new charm, such as the company of horses in a fenced-in coastal field above. The snows are fresh and windswept here, and I highly recommend a visit to the classic destination:

Great Second Life Destinations: The Keys - An Instant Photographers' Favorite

The Keys are a very attractive island dual-sim island region that has quickly become a photographer's favorite.  There is a partial list of blogs which have already featured The Keys and a Flickr Group links further down in this article.  The landscape is not tropical -- but full of Cypress Pines and other plantings more typical of a temperate region  Homes and other architectural features including a charming green lighthouse are naturally placed in a  realistically scaled environment, with charming surprises at every turn.  This is a highly recommended destination and one that just about everyone who appreciates good virtual design should visit.

Great Second Life Destinations: NYC2036 Role Play

NYC2036 RP is a german speaking role play sim set in New York City 20 years in the future. The physical layout and appearance of NYC2036 is inspired by New York City and not an actual representation, but there is nothing wrong with this, especially if integration with a role play story line is desired. I happen to be absolutely terrible at role play; I tried to portray a low class "Peisano" human" in now defunct Venexia only to be asked to leave when I told a dominant Vampire to go have sex with himself after he tried to bite my neck without my permission even though it was written into the role play story line.

NYC2036 does have its charms. I found the modern subway station (shown above), which serves as the arrival area, to be very similar to conceptual illustrations for the 3 initial stations of the soon to be opened (December 2016) New York City Second Avenue Subway, a project that has been planned and under construction for half a century. I found the Chinatown area to be particularly well done. The interiors of the bars and clubs are striking even though they might be more in place in Hamburg than in New York. However, it was the brick lines alleys and streets, cold and foreboding yet strikingly reminiscent of parts of Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan, that added the most to the realism and charm here.

NYC2036  is highly recommended for photographers, tourists, and anyone else who enjoys touring interesting destinations in Second Life.  To visit:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/AliBaba/179/133/23

Make sure to get and wear an OOC (Out of Character) tag when you arrive at the subway station if you wish to tour the destination. Please remember this is a german speaking sim, please do not converse in any other language in public chat during your visit.

Great Second Life Destinations: High Water's Gorgeous Sunset

High Water is a gorgeous water sim with a unique sunset -- that illuminated the seascape with some of the most stunning light even seen in Second Life. Great Second Life Destinations: Experience New York's Adirondack Mountains at Lick Sim Designs

Sera Bellic's latest Lick Sim Design build, "Experience the Adirondacks", is a gorgeous representation of New York's wild Adirondack Mountains. The Adirondacks are famous for ski resorts including Lake Placid, the site of two Winter Olympics and cool lakes, including renowned Lake George. It is a very beautiful and wild place, and very open -- you can drive for miles without seeing any real civilization there. I highly recommend you visit and check out some of the best natural scenery in Second Life.

I used Windlight sky setting [TOR] MIDDAY - Nostalgika in these images, which I favor for its warm golden light and clear skies. Nostalgika comes as an option in the Firestorm Viewer.

Once you arrive, rez a tube to swim to the other side of the arrival area, and walk up the path to see the open landscape

Great Second Life Art Installations: "Fading Mask" by Haveit Neox at Berg by Nordan Art

Haveit Neox keeps on outdoing himself with incredibly imaginative and beautiful art installations that follow his unique sculptural style of cut-out shapes and balanced placements - usually with some animated elements. His current work, Fading Mask, which can be seen at Berg by Nordan Art is a worth. Fading Mask has at it's center two humanoid shapes -- which are riding a whale or another leviathan in a golden sea. Sculpted humaid shapes circle the central whale, which has a open and animated center which reminded me of the workings of internal organs in a rib cage. This is my own interpretation -- and yours may be completely different. But whatever you think, this is gorgeous art installation and one that you should visit before it closes in March.

All photography was taken with the golden Sky Windlight setting already programmed at the region.

Fading Mask is on display at Berg by Nordan Art through March 31 2016.  To visit this highly recommended art installation:
