New Toulouse is a very good representation of the Vieux Carré, or The French Quarter of New Orleans. Today is the most famous day of the year of course -- Mardis Gras or Fat Tuesday. All excesses must be out of your system by the stroke of midnight -- the beginning of Ash Wednesday and the Lenten Season. I have been on Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras night, and was amazed how the populace and partymakers (assisted by police on horses) quickly quiets down and moves indoors at this time. New Toulouse, with its colorful banners and floats, and gorgeous old architecture, is a great place to visit today. Highly recommended.
