I had no idea you can do this, but thank you Torley!

Blog Traffic is Seasonal - Summers Months are Slow

It is widely known that blogs generally decline in traffic in the North American Summer months, from the end of June until Mid-September.

I want to share more numbers with you from Statcounter for this blog, Eddi Haskell's Second Life. Statcounter is a free program that measures traffic on your blog and give you all these interesting statistic for free.

My blog reached a peak in week 29, in mid July.  It had 1400 hits in that one week (note- only one page load is counted per viewer in a 30 minute period). It then rapidly fell to about 850 views per week in August, and is now starting to rise again. I had 1100 hits last week.

This does not apply with all blogs. The Zindra Times continues to grow, it now has twice as many hits as this blog and did not show any summer decline.  But all in all, if you are counting your readership, get ready for seasonal doldrums and don't get discouraged!

A New Davey Wavey Video - What would you give up for peace?

I featured Davey Wavey here earlier this month.  He is a hot Canadian Twink who has over 46,000 subscribers on you tube and makes money selling fitness videos which are really an excuse to show off his buffed body.  Here is his latest video. Everyone needs a gimmick like this, but I guess you have to look like Davey to pull it off.

Portraits by Brenda Hoisin

Brenda Hoisin is my guest photographer (or portrait painter which is an apt definition of her work as an artist) of the day. Brenda uses Photoshop and other graphic manipulation packages. Her portraits are ready within five minutes. Her portraits can be done in oil, water color, pencil drawing, or canvas on easels. She can also do group shots.

Here is how she describes her work:

"I need to work fast because the person is sat posing in front of the easel waiting for their portrait to appear.  In order to create the portraits, I need to pose them, light them, crop them, rescale them, apply a whole variety of graphic processes and filters, then upload them as a correctly proportioned texture and apply them to a framed prim all within a few minutes - while keeping a conversation going!  My calm and placid appearance on the outside doesn't reflect how very hectic it can get on my side. What I love best about portrait painting is the chance to meet so many different people from SL.  However, I’ve also had some very strange requests, but I rarely say no to any of them.  The thing I love the best about portrait painting is the chance to meet so many different people from SL.   However, I've also had some very strange requests, but I rarely say no to any of them."

Brenda has no qualms doing full frontal portraits of guys, she sent me one to post but I cannot run this here since this blog does not a mature rating.   Will she do more interesting couple shots as part of her service? This you will have to ask her on your own!

Brenda also has gift certificates available.

Just Beautiful SL Men: A New Addition to the Top 5 Hottest Guys for the Month of September- Seph Ishelwood

Although Seph Ishelwood has only been on this blog for a short time, many of you are interested. He has a considerable amount of reader activity spent to make him a new entrant in my top 5 hottest guys.  There is no change to the list, please see my earlier post for July and August to see the rest of the list.  My top 5 guys list  now contains 6.  Voting alone does not determine this ranking- I am using a complicated formula that is measuring all sorts of parameters ad determined by Statcounter software.

Eddi Haskell Photo of the Day - Autumn comes to Symphony Sim

Autumn, or the Fall to North Americans, is here.  If you go to Northern New England right now, the Maine Coast for example, or the Maritime Provinces in Canada, you might see a scene like this. To get the oil finish look, I used a golden hue tint to the image.

Here is the location from where I took the photo.  Note when I cam in and out it might be a distance from the spot that I give here:  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Symphony/65/174/24

The Most Powerful Gay Politician in the World- Meet the New Foreign Minister of Germany

Germany is set to get a new Foreign Minister, the second most powerful post in that country, and one of the most powerful positions in international relations in the world. 47 year old Guido Westerwelle is head of the Free Democratic Party in Germany (ironically, probably the closet in economic ideology to the Republican Party in the United States) and is set to get this position if his party enters into a coalition government with Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats which appears to be likely after Sunday's election.

He just happens to be gay, and lives with his partner, 42-year-old partner Michael Mronz. What is German Pope Benedict going to do when he has to meet this guy- let alone the Islamic heads of state that Germany has relations with?  I will say one thing- when it comes to acceptance of Gay people in postions of power, Deutschland Uber Alles! A job well done!

New You Tube from Eddi - Portrait of Kolin Wylie

Kolin Wylie came over to visit on our airship on Sunday, and I snapped some quick pics of him and decided to make a rapid fire video.   The only really short song on YouTube I could find to make an MP3 out of using DVD Studio, a free program which I reviewed in this blog yesterday, was Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, which makes for a nice background.

Kolin is in the top 5 all time in terms of time spent and download interest in my other blog, Most Beautiful SL Men, so please enjoy the short video. I can make other videos if you are interested with photo sittings starting at L$ 3,000 and will host them for you on my channel.

here are other photo-based Machinimas I have made of hot avatars:

New YouTube from Eddi - Sherrie Shepherd Debuts at the Rose Ballroom in Second Life

Sherrie Shepherd is a good friend of mine.  She is also an editor of VR Style magazine - I am the Creative Director.  We were fooling around after taking some photographs last week of the Rose Theater for our October Issue, which will be out any day, and the photos of her were really nice, despite all her complaining that she looked awful (women, why do they always do that?).  The results are charming. We did some ballroom dancing at the end, and I assembled this slide show machinima using Google's Picasa to Edif Piaf singing "La Vie En Rose'.  Take a look at the results.

One thing about slide shows-- they allow for much, much richer depth of image than machinimas. Amazingly, four photography in one of my slide shows can take up almost as much space as a low-rez machinima.  I am going to stick with this slide art form for now.

My Top 10 Free Programs and Web Platforms that help me be Creative,.

Here are my top 10 favorite free programs, aside from the anti-virus/spybot/trojan programs I use. I am also not including video hosting sites like You Tube here and email services, but GMail integrates with Blogger, and I almost put that in there. Note I am not yet making real videos (my slide shows give me more image control), so I have not listed many of the great free machinima programs out there. In addition, I am not listing free programs like Defraggler and CC Cleaner from www.Ccleaner.com to speed up my computer.

Note:  I am not a natural geek, and I have learned how to use all of these intuitively. In other words, they are easy to learn. I also use programs like GIMP to so advanced image processing but they are not intuitive, and frankly, not fast enough for my purposes.

I have never picked up a virus with any of these programs, and they are well reviewed. However, you need to be careful of what you download.

1. Google's Picasa image processing and sharing.  Although it does not have Flickr's market share and organizational abilities, it has excellent image processing, integrates with Blogger, and is great for organziing an online magazine's photography staff around.

2.Scribus page layout prgram. Allows me to product professional-quality ads and posters without having to purchase Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign.  An example of a poster I designed with Scribus is shown below.

3. An obvious choice- Google Blogger.  Intuitive 90% of the time (except for ridiculously complex WebMaster tools). The core of my online publishing operations. BTW if you have not started a blog because it looks too complicated, the basics are very easy.  GOYA and do it (GOYA stands for get off your aspirins).

4. FlauntR Photo/Image processing program.  Takes off where Picasa stops. Allows you to do really cool image conversions that can make your photos look like one of 40 free oil paintings.  See an example below.  I also use it for posterizing images, and duotone converstions.

5.   DVD Videosoft Youtube MP3 converter. It allows you to take make MP3 files off YouTube videos.  Most music on YouTube is recorded in stereo.  Of course we NEVER download ANYTHING with a copyright, do we boys and girls?  The main DVD Videosoft programs allows you to do lots of cool things like made CD's out of MP3's easily, download You Tubes easily.  Just check it out.

 6. Wavepad Sound Editor by NCH Software- Allows  you to edit all those MP3's you have above for easy-to-make Picasa slide-show based videos with need sudio tracks. You can splice, cut, and clean up all sorts of sounds.

7. Pixellon Image Conversion by NCH Software. Allows you to take just about any image and convert it into an easy to manage JPEGs, including those TIF files you get when you dowload textures directly from Second life. NCH actually makes a slew of great free creative programs that you can download for free.

8.  Wisdom-soft ScreenHunter.  You can easily capture any screen shot, including inworld Second Life shots, and save them as JPEG images with this. Note: Just because a photograph or Texture in Second Life is non-downloadable because of set permissions does not mean you cannot download it. Just save your screen image and crop it using Picasa or any other basic photo editor. Wisdom-soft makes other cool free online programs to enhance your creativity.

9.   1001 Free Fonts:  These fonts are gorgeous and high quality. I use them in my Scribus-made ads, posters, and magazine pages. It is so easy to install custom fonts.  I use Windows and just drag them to the font folder in my Control Panel. I am going to be reviewing this program in detail at a later time.

10. Issuu Online Magazine Publisher:  Although I do not use this as much as Ariel Linguian does to publish VR-Style magazine, it is simply an amazingly powerful way of creating on online publication and getting it out to the world.

Eddi Haskell's Photo of the Day: Skye Gothic Caste Keep using FlauntR

I love this photo of the Skye Gothic Castle Keep, with an antique -looking oil finish using FlauntR's PicasR paint-finished editor.  Flauntr is one of my favorite online photo editors with excellent features, and best of all, its free.  i used the Italian Landscape option in PicasaR to get this old lighted effect.

New YouTube Video from Eddi- Ryce Skytower demonstrates optional skin tones in the Emerald Viewer

I made this video to demonstrate some of the over 50 new environmental light settings available in the Emerald Viewer's advanced sky editor. Model Ryce Skytower demonstrates how these light settings look on his skin. There are subtle yet very dramatic differences.

Photo of the Day - The Manor on Thunder Island

This is a simple unprocessed shot using a sunrise setting.  I love the way the light bounces on the water.  Thunder Island (below the club) truly is a gorgeous place.

Thank you Brenda Connolly!

Brenda Connolly write a great blog which I read and have added to my favorites called The Accidental Avatar.  I take this story and her photos from her September 22 issue. Its about my Blue Mars Photography exhibit at my Gallery in Zindra.

Just some corrections-  Jago actually started the Museum of Sex Furniture, The Zindra Times, and built our gorgeous museum. I am just along for the ride lol.

The dog is named Albert and he loves to be petted. Just click on him to pet him. We have four other dogs who are friendly too, but Albert is the most friendly.

Thanks you Brenda!

I've talked before about The Zindra Times and of it's co publisher Eddi Haskell. He and his partner, Jago Constantine do a marvelous job of keeping us all up on the happenings in the Adult Continent, being active members of the community themselves. If you haven't visited the ZT, just follow this link:http://www.zindratimes.com/

Eddi is a talented artist and photographer and right now is showcasing some photos from Blue Mars.

Even if you are like me, and have no interest in Blue Mars, the trip is worthwhile. The pictures are great and it will allow you to see some of Eddi's other work, including his highly entertaining Museum of Sex Furniture. You may even make a new friend.

September 23 - A Record Day for My Blogs. 783 hits.

September 23 was a record day for my blogs. I had 783 unique visits for my blogs according to Statcounter.  Note, if you jumped around from blog to blog (I have a few) you are only counted once. And if you follow me through Google Reader, you are not counted at all.

I had 545 unique visitors yesterday.  Some of you returned more than once.  My blogs have about 200 "regulars" who keep on returning (not including all you Google Reader people).

Over 93% of my hits were in two blogs - this, and The Zindra TimesJust Beautiful SL Men only had 40 hits yesterday, but has had as many as 160 hits on other days.

I know I am "blowing my own horm" with this, but back in April when I reached 10,000 hits I said I would be happy with 25,000 by October 1.  It now looks like I will be close to 80,000 hits by then.

Today was a very high number, which would translate to over 300,000 hits a year. I am not sure this will keep it, but I am stunned and amazed that so many of you are interested in my Second Life.

Thanks for reading and giving me the inspiration to continue!

$459.00??????

I've been thinking about taking a trip, I have not really traveled except for some consulting work in over a year. I just booked a cruise on the Carnival Liberty for a week around the Caribbean in October.  The Liberty is a  three- year old  nicely rated ship, and looks really great. This is Carnival though, and you are talking lots of screaming kids and drunk tweens running around the ship all the time. But was it cheap, and cruises are always relaxing and fun. If you are ever looking for gay activities on a ship, most major lines book events under the heading "Friends of Dorothy" along with the 12-step program get togethers.

What I cannot figure out is the price. The travel industry must be in a bad recession to say the least! With tax, fuel surcharges, and everything it came to only $459.00 for a single cabin. This is incredibly cheap, they give huge discounts to Floridians to fill the ship up if it does not sell out. It's about half the cheapest price I have seen before.

I took out cancellation insurance for an extra $25.00..  Together with the tips that you are expected to leave for staff on the cruise ship, and parking at the Miami cruise terminal (I can drive there), my entire vacation should come out to be around $630.00, or $90.00 a day.   This is cheaper than staying at a motel -- and the cruise includes a room, your meals, entertainment, everything but drinks, bottled water, and other extras.

October is the height of the hurricane season in the Caribbean, but ships avoid these now with weather forecasts. It is hot and humid as hell down in Mexico and Jamaica though, so hopefully the ship will be air conditioned.

If you are interested, I found this deal on Expedia.  You might want to check it out.

The Most Perfect Small Country To Visit in The World.

In my opinion, the most perfect small country to visit in the world is one that many of you have just heard a passing reference to. It is Slovenia. Slovenia was the most westernized part of the old Yugoslavia before it broke up into separate countries about 20 years ago.  It has a high standard of living, is part of the European Union, uses the Euro, but is still an affordable place to visit. It borders Italy and Austria-  and is part of the old Austro-Hungarian empire of "Mitteleuropa" that I like so much.

Slovenia is not that big. For Americans, it is the same size of New Jersey. But the variety this country contains is amazing. You can be in on a seacoast that is reminiscent of the Riviera and on some of the highest Alps in Europe within an hour and a half.

Why do I think it is so wonderful (I was thinking about moving there once):

1. The scenery.   Here are two of my favorite spots in the country:

Bled, an impossibly beautiful mountian town.

Portorohz (translates to Port of Roses) a seaside town where I had the single best meal of my life -- fresh fish and fresh green wine on a perfect May day.

The capital of the country, Ljubljana, looks very similar to a small city in Austria.  It is pleasant, but I remember the outlying areas better- i like getting out and seeing scenery.  I actually had one of the worst meals of my life there - roast kid.  Baby goat sounded good but it looked like road kill and tasted way too gamey.

2. The people.  This is a gross generalization, but I remember the people of Slovenia as being absolutely charming. Friendly, classy, attractive, welcoming to foreigners, you name it.   I remember many of the guys as being extremely hot and fit too, but Slovenia is really a very laid back gay destination to visit. Eveyrone who I interacted with spoke English.

Now, Slovenia is next door to another former Yugoslavian country- Croatia. The two could not be more different. Slovenia has a higher standard of living, and in general, is an easier place to visit. I felt that it was less-in-your-face than their neighbor to the South (they do not share a common language btw, Slovenian is different than Croatian). Dubrovnik in Croatia is a famous destination though, a gorgeous walled medieval city, and the men (and woman) in Croatia are legendary for being goodlooking (I can confirm this, I love to look at hot guys). So you may want to add that to your trip.

Baywatch Premiered 20 Years Ago Today

Baywatch (otherwise known as "Babewatch" for the heterosexual male readers of Eddi Haskell's Second Life- all three of you) premiered 20 years ago today on NBC. It actually ran in its original form for one season only, before ubermensh David Hasselhoff took it over as an independent producer and made it such a smash success. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Baywatch is the most watched TV show in the world of all time, with over 1.1 billion viewers.

I love Baywatch. It is a combination of an LA fantasy, with hot Lifeguards and bimbos who want them - both male and female - running around looking fit and having absolute asinine lines to say that even Beavis and Butthead find moronic. I am a big fan of David Hasselhoff because he always manages to look like hes working so hard on the show. They were going to do an Aussie version but never did. This makes no sense since the Australian beach scene IS just like Baywatch with cheaper hair-dos.

Here is the intro from the first seaon;

What are you searching for when you end up here?

One of the things that the free Statcounter Software program allows you to do is find out which search terms people use to get to your blog.

Around 50% of the traffic to this blog comes from searches.  Of that, the search terms are about evenly divided between those that have something to do with Second Life and those that do not.

I wanted to share some recent search terms with you:

Those that have something to do with Second Life:

Most beautiful gardens in Second life (note from Eddi:  VR Style Magazine has a montly feature on this).

Emerald viewer  (note from Eddi:  I will be increasing my coverage of the Emerald viewer, there were many search inquiries. The photography is fantastic, and I have shown some here earlier today0.

Second life zindra   (Note from Eddi: See my other blog www.zindratimes.com)

Second Life VR fashion magazine    (Note from Eddi; again, see VR Style for this).

Tristars second life       (Note from Eddi:  True love can be found at Tristars!)

Profile picture Second Life     (Note from Eddi;  Just show your face.  It's a small space).

How to speed up SL     (Note from Eddi:  Should be - Why are things getting worst and not better, notice how long it takes to rez these days?"

“second life” sex gallery      (Note from Eddi - sounds like a hot new blog someone should start).

Eddi Haskell SL Bleeding Heart  (Note from Eddi - Although I covered the Bleeding Hearts Club here, I am not sure if this is what the searcher meant.  Maybe I am a bleeding heart?)"

Gay club second life       (Note from Eddi - this term ended up on my Midcourt page).

Those that have nothing to do with Second Life:

Wally and Beaver Cleaver Sex  (Note from Eddi:  Nah, no way.  I would have known).

Very romantic pictures

FACEINHOLE

Antique sex furniture  (Note from Eddi:  Do they have this in real life?).

Hung  beach  (Note from Eddi; in Virtual Reality, every beach is hung!)

Drama song of sex video

Blue mars gay sim (Note frm Eddi:  I have many Second Life vs. Blue Mars searches.  More Blue Mars content to follow).

youtube Woodstock

list of great European cities  (Note from Eddi - I will be continuing this series).

Italian male sex on you tube (Note from Eddi:  And you ended up here?)

Men with long pennis on You Tube  (Note from Eddi - From Australia  I guess a pennis is a penis).

How Skintones Differ Within Emerald Viewer Settings

The optional sky settings in the Emerald Viewers (in advanced sky editor) can make a dramatic difference on Skin Tones. Here, model Ryce Skytower is showing how his torso looks with four different settings:

Incredible. - Virginia synagogue doubles as mosque for Ramadan?

I still am shocked by this story. For the better!

A Virginia (USA) synagogue is doubling as a Mosque for the holy month of Ramadan.

I was thinking about this-

1. I think that this could only happen in the United States. I can't see this happening anywhere in Europe for example.

2. It goes to show what can happen when people treat each other like human beings and not like stereotypes.

The feel good story of the day. By the way, to our Jewish readers, please have a Happy New Years (year 5770).

Associated Press

On Friday afternoons, the people coming to pray at this building take off their shoes, unfurl rugs to kneel on and pray in Arabic. The ones that come Friday evenings put on yarmulkes, light candles and pray in Hebrew.

The building is a synagogue on a tree-lined street in suburban Virginia, but for the past few weeks - during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan - it has also been doubling daily as a mosque. Synagogue members suggested their building after hearing the Muslim congregation was looking to rent a place for overflow crowds.

"People look to the Jewish-Muslim relationship as conflict," said All Dulles Area Muslim Society Imam Mohamed Magid, saying it's usually disputes between the two groups in the Middle East that make news. "Here is a story that shatters the stereotype."

Magid, who grew up in Sudan, said he did not meet someone who was Jewish until after he had moved to the U.S. in his 20s, and he never imagined having such a close relationship with a rabbi. But he said the relationship with the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation has affected him and his members. Beyond being tolerant, the synagogue and its members have been welcoming.

He said one member of the mosque told him, "Next time I see a Jewish person I will not look at them the same."

You can finish this story here.

New Video from Eddi - Roger's First Day on Blue Mars

I wanted to see what Blue Mars, the new virtual world potential Second Life "killer" is like, so I applied to be a beta tester (anyone can do this it is easy just go to http://www.bluemarsonline.com/) and got my authorization email this morning. So this is my new Blue Mars avatar, pudgy Roger who won't win any contests but looks very realistic.  More to follow on Blue Mars vs. Second Life.

Photo of the Day: Paris New York Sim

I went and checked out the Paris New York sim last evening to see the Eiffel Tower.  I have to admit I like the tower in Paris 1900 much better, its more realistic.  However, I did get vertigo for the first time on Second Life when I was trying to reach the top- the tower is huge!

Now, I did see this interesting shot.   I wanted a moonset so I went to advanced sky editor and played around with east setting and sun / moon position in lighting.  I then took a snap and headed over to the online Flauntr service to fine a nice finish in their Picasr color settings.  The setting I picked was called Night Hawk. I then played around with the contrast in Microsoft picture manager, and voila, the photograph above!

My blogs now have gained 20,000 unique hits in the past 7 weeks. This is quite a bit of growth in the slow summer months.

My total hit count for 2009 will exceed  70,000 within the next four days.  (note- if you jump around from blog to blog or post to post more than one time in a 30 minute period it only counts once).

Over 95% of my hits come from three main blogs:

This blog, Eddi Haskell's Second Life.

The blog I do with Jago, The Zindra Times.

And my blog containing photography of gorgeous male avatars in Second Life, Just Beautiful SL Men.

I am kind of confused by this.  People seem to be interested in what I am writing about.  But, all these numbers are providing needed enthusiasm right now!

I am starting to do things to increase count hits like using Blogger tools they involve some HTML coding, and will be writing about some of my experiences and how-to-do's here. But one thing I refuse to do is to treat my blogging like a business (how boring!) and stop having fun.  But thank you for your support.

Versailles in Second Life?

No, its going to be the new Museum of Sex Furniture and The Eddi Haskell Gallery in Zindra.  We are going to be staring a festive opening celebration with a Guillotine Demonstration and Fireworks once we are done.  I think it is shaping up great!  Jago has done a great job recreating a major palace in France.

National Equality March™ « Equality Across America

On October 10 - 11 there will be a big rally in Washington D.C. for LGBT right.  I take this from their web site:  Please try to attend if you are in the Northeast corridor of the United States.

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified on July 9, 1868, and granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States. In addition, it forbids states from denying any person “life, liberty or property, without due process of law” or to “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of its laws.” By directly mentioning the role of the states, the 14th Amendment greatly expanded the protection of civil rights to all Americans and is cited in more litigation than any other amendment.
On October 10-11, 2009, we will gather in Washington, D.C. from all across America to let our elected leaders know that now is the time for full equal rights for LGBT people. We’ve had a moment thrust upon us by the election of President Barack Obama and the spirit of hope and change, and also by the sense of entitlement in the new generation of grassroots organizing. This march is a vehicle to a larger goal. We want to work to bridge the gap between the national organizations and the grassroots community organizers. We will gather. We will strategize. We will march. And we will leave energized and empowered to do the work that needs to be done in every community across the nation. This is only the beginning.
Our single demand: Equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states.
Our philosophy: As members of every race, class, faith, and community, we see the struggle for LGBT equality as part of a larger movement for peace and social justice.
Our strategy: Decentralized organizing for this march in every one of the 435 Congressional districts will build a network to continue organizing beyond October.
This is our single message as we march on Washington on October 11, 2009. We seek equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states.
